Baby clothes are cute, no doubt, but try not to get carried away when you register for baby clothes. Here are some basics you’ll want to make sure you have:
*12 bodysuits – If you have baby during super warm weather, these might become baby’s main wardrobe. If it’s really cold outside, these make a great first layer.
*6-8 “sleep ‘n play” outfits/gowns – Baby won’t be going out a lot during those first few weeks so she’ll probably be living in these “sleep n’ play” outfits.
*4-6 side-snap shirts – These don’t rub the belly button area like bodysuits do so you might prefer them as a first layer until the umbilical cord stump falls off.
*Baby mittens – These are necessary to keep baby from scratching herself.
*Booties/socks
*2-3 caps
*4-6 receiving blankets /swaddle sets
*Bunting for cold weather (e.g., a warm lining for the infant carrier and stroller)
If you’re not finding out ahead of time whether you’re having a boy or a girl, register for items in neutral colors. Don’t worry about having enough gender-specific outfits. Once baby is born, you’ll likely find family and friends showering you with tons of pink or blue clothing. Also because babies grow so fast, register for items in various sizes.
