When I was just a few months pregnant with my first child, my husband got laid off from his job. A natural-born worrier, I was concerned about affording everything we needed for baby. So when it was time to register for baby gifts, I took a somewhat strategic approach. It’s an approach I would recommend regardless of your financial condition.
First, consider how many people are in your circle of friends and family. If you have a somewhat small network of close friends and family, devote your registry primarily to items that you need. If you have a large grouping of folks lining up to shower you with gifts, you can relax that approach a bit, adding in some “nice to haves” with your “must haves.” Keep them to a minimum though; you really don’t need to register for stuffed animals and cutesy toys. Trust me – you’ll have plenty in no time, whether you register for them or not.
As for what you do need, we’ll take a look soon at items that should be on your registry.
